Kidney stones are starting to become a growing concern among medical experts.  One’s diet and a poor habit is most likely the cause of kidney stones.  But there is good news.  You can avoid developing kidney stones if you avoid the foods not good for those who are at risk.

The age group which is at the highest risk includes men over 30 years of age.  Kidney stones are comprised of struvite, uric acid, cystine and calcium.  80% of kidney stones are made of oxalate type of calcium deposit.  Therefore, one at risk of kidney stone should eliminate in their diet the foods that are high in oxalic acid.  Avoid foods like tomatoes, summer squash, eggplant, spinach, peanuts, sweet potatoes, cocoa and almonds for they are found to be high in oxalic acid.

Animal fat also increases the risk of developing kidney stone.  Animal fat are known to cause the body to release calcium that will build up in the kidney.  Dairy products are also rich in calcium and are not good for those who are at high risk.  Studies also shown that grapefruit juice can increase the risk of developing a kidney stone and should be avoided.  Also, it is important to stay away from sugar.
