If you have to discipline your kids, your kids want to know what they did wrong that caused you to punish them.  Therefore, they will not do the same thing that made you react negatively.  The common mistake from parents when imposing discipline to their kids is that they assume that their kids understand what they did wrong.  Most parents thought there is no need for explanation why you need to discipline them.  But yelling and spanking without lesson learned is nothing but an abuse.
